In furtherance of one of the key objectives of the Perthshire Art Association, in March 2016 a new award targeted at recent graduates of the Scottish Art Colleges with links to Perth and Kinross was instigated by the PAA.

The Perthshire Art Association Award was presented to inaugural winner Laura Porteous of Scone, a 2015 graduate of Gray’s School of Art, Robert Gordon’s University, Aberdeen, at the official opening of the Royal Scottish Academy New Contemporaries 2016 Exhibition in Edinburgh.

The Award, which takes the form of a financial prize and an invitation to feature as the Guest Artist at the next PAA Annual Exhibition, was significantly enhanced through the generous support of the Jimmie Cairncross Charitable Trust, whose Trustees have indicated that they are mindful to make similar support again in 2017. The PAA is extremely grateful to the Trustees for their support, and also to the Director and staff of the Royal Scottish Academy in Edinburgh which has administered the Award on our behalf.

Laura, who hails originally from the North-East of England was a pupil at Perth Academy before heading to Aberdeen. She is delighted to have received the PAA Award and is already preparing new works for the PAA’s 64th Annual Exhibition which opens 4 November 2016.
